We've decided to do a monthly roundup for the benefit of anyone interested. The birds mentioned are all relatively notable for us, and all have been seen by at least two of us, so the list is not exhaustive. For the full list please see the yearlist spreadsheet below.
108 species were recorded in January, which is a very good total for the month.
Highlights were:
Iceland Gull (seen on the beach and later in the month also on rooftops in the village)
Hen Harrier (a fine 2nd year male)
Merlin
Great Northern Diver
Velvet Scoter (as many as 3 on some dates)
Tundra Bean Goose (4 birds but elusive amongst the pinks)
Russian White-fronted Goose (up to 14 amongst the pinks)
Barnacle Goose (1 with the pinks)
Bullfinch (2 males and a female; rare here now)
Water Rail
Barn Owl
Snow Bunting (a small intermittent flock up to about 20 birds).
